Privacy policy

Quote Ninja (“we”, “us”) is a quote-request and lead-referral service. We are not an insurer, an underwriter, a credit provider or a financial services provider. We connect you with licensed South African providers who give the actual quotes, options and advice: FSP-registered brokers for car, home, life and funeral cover, CMS-accredited brokers for medical aid, and NCR-registered credit providers for personal loans.

Depending on the product you ask about, we collect:

• Car insurance: vehicle details and value, how the car is used and parked overnight, your age band, licence experience, claims history, current insurance and cover preferences.
• Home insurance: the type of cover, property type, ownership, and the value of the building and contents.
• Life cover: the cover amount and purpose, your age band and, only if you choose to share it, whether you smoke.
• Funeral cover: who you want covered, age bands, additional lives, cover amount and existing cover.
• Medical aid: the members and dependants to be covered, your budget and your current medical scheme membership.
• Personal loans: the amount, purpose and term, your income and employment status, and whether you are under debt review.

For every product we also collect your province and city or suburb, and your contact details (name, cellphone number, email address, preferred contact method and time). We record your consent, the date and time, your IP address and your browser information.

Whether you smoke is health information, which POPIA treats as special personal information. We only process it if you give a separate, explicit consent on the life cover form under section 26 of POPIA. Sharing it is optional, and you may withdraw that consent at any time by emailing privacy@quoteninja.co.za.

We process your information under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA), on the basis of the consent you give in the quote form. The purpose is to obtain quotes or options for the product you asked about (car, home, life or funeral cover, medical aid, or a personal loan) and to keep you informed about the progress of your request.

We share your request with up to three licensed providers who serve your area and offer the product you asked about: FSP-registered brokers for car, home, life and funeral cover, CMS-accredited brokers for medical aid, and NCR-registered credit providers for personal loans. Providers only see masked contact details until they accept your request. They are contractually required to use your details solely to respond to that request, and to comply with POPIA and the laws that regulate them.

If you make your request through a partner’s branded website, it is sent only to that partner’s own linked advisers. The partner’s branding may differ from Quote Ninja’s, but the same privacy practices in this policy apply.

Quote Ninja is free for consumers. Licensed providers pay us a fee to receive your request — similar to how other quote-comparison services work. We do not sell your information to marketers, data resellers, or anyone outside that match.

We also use service providers for hosting and database storage, email delivery and SMS delivery. We may add other operational service providers, such as messaging, analytics or assistant tools; we will list them here before they are switched on. All of them act as our operators under POPIA and may not use your information for their own purposes.

We keep quote requests and the associated consent records for five years from the date of your request, to comply with financial services record-keeping obligations. After that, records are deleted or anonymised.

You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, object to further processing, withdraw your consent, or ask us to delete your details. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that already took place, and brokers who already received your request must be contacted directly to remove their copies — we will help you do so.

We only send marketing if you tick the separate, optional marketing box. Every message includes an unsubscribe option.

Your information is stored in encrypted databases with access controls. Only approved brokers matched to your request, and our administrators, can access your details.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, contact us first. You may also complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa), JD House, 27 Stiemens Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg, or email complaints.IR@justice.gov.za.
